When you come up with a new idea for software, it can be tempting to spend months building it before showing anyone. The problem is, you might invest all that time and money only to find out that nobody actually wants it. The fastest way to avoid this is to validate your idea first.

Step 1: Make sure the problem exists
Before you even think about writing a single line of code, check that the problem is real. A simple way to do this is to talk to people who might face it. Ask them direct questions like:

  • What is the hardest part about doing this task?
  • How are you currently solving it?
  • What frustrates you about the tools you use now?

The key is to listen for complaints. If people are openly frustrated and actively looking for a better solution, that is a strong signal the problem is worth solving. If they seem fine with what they have, you may need to rethink your idea.

Step 2: Create a simple landing page
Once you are confident that people struggle with the problem, the next step is to test if they are willing to pay for a solution. You can do this with a simple landing page that explains what your software will do, how it helps, and why it is different.

Keep it short and clear:

  • Headline about the problem
  • A few lines on your solution
  • A call to action (like “Join the waitlist” or “Sign up for early access”)

Then share the page in relevant communities, groups, or networks where your audience hangs out.

Step 3: Measure sign ups and interest
If people sign up for your waitlist, that is a good sign. But if they are willing to preorder or pay upfront, that is an even stronger signal. Preorders prove that your idea is valuable enough for people to part with their money before the product even exists.

Step 4: Adjust quickly
If very few people show interest, it may mean your messaging is unclear or the problem is not painful enough. Do not see this as failure—it is useful feedback that saves you months of wasted effort.

The takeaway
Validating your Saas idea is not about building fast, it is about learning fast. Talk to people, listen for their struggles, and see if they are willing to commit with their email address—or better yet, their wallet. If they do, you are on the right track.
